Listed below is a selection of recent commissions, along with brief descriptions of the clients' requirements. Click on the titles or screenshots to open the websites in a new browser window. Since all the websites can be easily updated by their owners at any time, I am not responsible for their content!
Jon Nicholls is a highly-regarded composer and sound designer, who has worked extensively in film, television, radio and theatre. Jon wanted a clean and stylish website to showcase his work, with an emphasis on simple navigation, fast page loading and search engine optimisation. Jon's website uses Flash MP3 players and embedded YouTube videos on most pages to provide previews of his work.
Elizabeth is an up-and-coming Jazz singer, who was looking for a simple but elegant website to showcase her beautiful voice. A popup MP3 player allows visitors to listen to her music whilst browsing the site. Elizabeth was quite precise with the colour scheme and theme that she was after, and she provided some stunning photos which helped to make the website what it is.
The Lanner and District Silver Band were looking to redesign their existing website but were also very keen to be able to update it themselves with all their latest news, events and engagements. The site's colour scheme was based on the band's uniforms, and the header includes a photo of the Lanner Falcon, a bird of prey depicted in the band's logo.
Delia is an Austrialian jazz singer now living in London. She wanted a website to showcase her music and videos, and provide contact details for potential clients.
Delia's album artwork is combined with one of her stunning studio photographs to provide a whimsical backdrop for her website.
Emily is a soulful singer-songwriter based in North Lincolnshire. She already had a MySpace page to promote her work, but was looking for something she could really call her own.
This site went through several incarnations before settling in its final form, and we had a lot of fun working together to create something that really reflected Emily's personality.
The client's original website was made entirely in Flash which reduced its accessibility and its visibility to search engines. This site uses the same colour scheme, fonts and photography as the original site, but is now far more readable by search engines and assistive technologies such as screen readers.
This site was commissioned by two extremely devoted fans of Fame Academy's Alistair Griffin. The clients wanted a place to publish the huge archive of photos, news articles and information they had amassed over the past few years. The pair already ran a successful discussion forum with around 600 members. This forum was also redesigned to match the new site.
Advocate is a recording and production company based in Leeds. For this project, the client already had a complete design; my task was to convert this design into a site that is updateable, accessible and search-engine-friendly. The result is a faithful reproduction of the original design, with all the benefits of a content-managed website.
Ruth is a multi-talented singer/songwriter who also plays the saxophone, piano and Hammond organ (well you have to with a surname like hers!)
Ruth is a self-confessed diva whose website reflects her 'pink and sparkly' style. The site also includes self-contained sections, each with its own lively colour scheme, to describe the different bands she works with.
Henri is a young boogie pianist who gigs regularly across the UK. He wanted a website from which to sell his CDs, publicise upcoming gigs and provide music for download.
Henri had a fairly clear idea of how he wanted his website to look, providing drawings, photos and text to use in the design. E-commerce facilities were included to accept credit card payments for CDs.
This website was commissioned to publicise the Jazz4Now music agency and the work of its founder, bass player Dave Richmond. The site includes photo galleries, upcoming gig listings and music downloads.
To create a consistent look across all of the client's marketing output, the graphics for this site were based on a pre-existing business card design.
This Bristol-based function band already had a website, but it was not easily updateable without knowledge of HTML. The client wanted to keep the site's original text but completely revamp the appearance.
As well as a brand new look, the new site also includes the intuitive update and admin tools that I provide for all my clients.
Oh La La! are a London-based acoustic quartet performing classic jazz, pop and french chansons. The brief was to produce a website that would provide details for prospective clients while emphasising the band's French style.
The client had no preconceptions about how the site should look, so an initial design was produced independently and then adjusted to the client's preferences.
The Forster-Hammond trio are a funky jazz organ trio based in Bristol. Their site was designed using the band's existing logo and photographs for inspiration.
The band makes use of the calendar, photo galleries and news page to keep their fans informed, and the guestbook allows visitors to voice their opinions.
Scott is a drummer from Bristol. His website is a new design that was based on the colours, content and some of the artwork from his previous static site.
Scott loves the fact that he can keep his gig listing and news articles up to date, but he also enjoys stamping his individual mark on the website by uploading pictures and even creating whole new pages.
